About Downtown Salt Lake City

The capital of the state, the Downtown district of Salt Lake City is known for its historical points of interest and its rich culture. The neighborhood boundaries are marked roughly by 200 North in the north end, S 200 East and State Street in the east, 800 South in the south, and the Veterans Memorial Highway in the west.

Those traveling to and around the downtown area can do so via the city’s major roads, the bus, or the TRAX—Salt Lake City’s light rail transit system. There are three lines, the Red Line, the Blue Line, and the Green Line, which serves the city as well as surrounding communities.

Discover Downtown Salt Lake City Real Estate

The real estate market of Downtown Salt Lake City is similar to that of other major metropolitan areas—that is, the primary property type is condos, found in the various mid-rise and high-rise complexes that make up the city. Buyers looking for a single-family detached home, but still want to live close to the city center, might find home in one of the nearby neighborhoods, such as Ballpark, East Central, Marmalade, or Capitol Hill. Additionally, this is where some of the most desirable—and the most expensive—commercial real estate is located.

For buyers interested in a residential property, Salt Lake City mixes the old with the new. Historic condos for sale have typically been well-maintained, often with modern upgrades and interior design within the units themselves. Other units have kept many of the original features with some minor updates, so those searching for charm within the downtown area have a good selection of properties to choose from. Older complexes generally have bigger square footage, as well, which makes these a popular option. As an alternative, newer buildings, such as The Metro, offer modern exteriors and sleek interiors, as well as amenities. While the amenities offered vary from complex to complex, these can include additional storage, underground parking, a fitness center or gym, an indoor pool, meeting and event spaces, and more.

Condos for sale in Downtown Salt Lake City range in square footage, from studio apartments from about 500 to 700 square feet, to two bedroom, two bathroom units reaching 1,500 square feet or more. These properties are desirable for their close proximity to amenities including shops and restaurants.

Downtown District: Highlights & Amenities

The Downtown neighborhood offers a wealth of things to do, from museums and galleries to protected sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places—the latter of which includes some of the real estate available on the market. The Downtown includes both local businesses to chain stores and restaurants, and residents enjoy the range of choice.

Some of the major highlights include Temple Square, a large complex that includes several buildings of note, such as the Salt Lake City Tabernacle, the FamilySearch Library, and the Salt Lake Utah Temple—which was built in 1893. Salt Lake City also hosts ComicCon, and is home to the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, the Discovery Gateway Children's Museum, the Clark Planetarium, and a number of performing arts and event venues
