About Harvard/Yale

Just under 4 miles from the downtown core, Harvard/Yale is a historic district with a family-friendly atmosphere. Though the neighborhood is officially named “Yalecrest”, colloquially it is known simply as “Harvard/Yale.” This is because of its streets, which were named after the Ivy League universities of Princeton, Harvard, and Yale. Red Butte Creek flows right through the neighborhood.

The neighborhood bounds are approximate, but run from East Sunnyside Avenue in the north, S 1900 East in the east, 1700 South in the south, and 1300 East in the west.

Discover Harvard/Yale, Salt Lake City Real Estate

An upscale neighborhood, real estate in Harvard/Yale typically begins at a higher price point, and this is largely due to the significant portion of well-maintained historic homes in the area. Harvard/Yale is perhaps most recognized for its unique properties, many of which were built between the 1910s and 1940s, resulting in residential neighborhoods that feel quite cohesive.

Architecturally, homes for sale in Harvard/Yale are built in a variety of styles, though many prospective buyers are particularly interested in the Tudor and red brick Colonial Revival properties, which are striking for their distinct charm. As these are older properties, it is not uncommon for the interiors to have undergone significant revitalization and/or modernization—though owners tend to keep as many of the original home features as possible, because these homes are so coveted. Other prevalent architectural styles include Craftsman bungalows and cottages.

While the historic properties of Harvard/Yale are some of the most sought-after, there are newer, custom homes for sale in this neighborhood. These are ideal for buyers who want a safe, tranquil location, but also would like a home that is more modern in design. Homes for sale in Harvard/Yale are also recognized for their mature trees, which line the streets, and their landscaped yards. Square footage-wise, properties in Harvard/Yale are quite generous in size, sitting at around 2,000 square feet on average, but reaching 4,000 or 5,000 square feet in some cases.

Harvard/Yale District: Highlights & Amenities

A family-friendly neighborhood, Harvard/Yale is overwhelmingly residential, and its location close to schools, parks, and the hospital makes this a great option for buyers. There is one school within the boundaries of the community, Uintah Elementary School, but other nearby educational institutions include Bonneville Elementary School, Clayton Middle School, East High School, The University of Utah, and Westminster University. There are, as well, private schools located nearby.

Miller Bird Refuge and Nature Park cuts though the Harvard/Yale neighborhood and offers walking trails through a large forest. This district is also adjacent to Sunnyside Park and a number of school facilities, including sports fields, a football stadium, and campus buildings. Harvard/Yale residents are also just a short drive away from grocery stores, shops, restaurants, and more. The Sugarhouse Shopping Center is less than a 10-minute drive south, while there are ample opportunities to enjoy various outdoor activities, such as golfing, walking/hiking, and even taking the kids to the zoo.
